Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI)

Definition

A private financial institution whose target market is businesses or individuals in developing communities. Community development financial institutions provide loans and financing to existing businesses or individuals often ignored by commercial banks because of their credit rating. Government funds, as well as those from the private sector are used to provide the capital.
