green field investment

Definition

A type of foreign investment in which a parent company will begin a new venture in another, usually developing, country. This parent company will construct new facilities as well as create new jobs when they hire new employees for these facilities. These companies are typically offered tax breaks and other incentives for setting up green field investments.
