hedge fund manager

Definition

The manager of a hedge fund who "hedges" traditional positions in stocks, bonds and commodities with riskier techniques than common long-position mutual funds, such as short selling and derivatives such as calls and puts and futures contracts. Hedge fund managers are highly paid, with an annual average of 2% of the fund's underlying holdings, and earn performance bonuses based on up and down market capture ratio.
