Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA)

Definition

A professional designation provided by the Chartered Alternative Investment Analysts Association in order to establish educational requirements and standards for those specializing in areas of alternative investments such as venture capital, hedge funds, and real estate investments. Individuals must have at least one ear of professional experience combined with a bachelor's degree and are required to pass two levels of curriculum on topics ranging from trading theories of alternative investments to qualitative analysis in order to receive the designation.
The designation was set up due to the need to differentiate between individuals qualified in dealing with conventional investments and those who practiced in the capacity of alternative investments.
