University of Michigan Survey of Consumers


A monthly survey of 500 households to determine consumer sentiment about current economic conditions and financial expectations for the future. Like the Consumer Confidence report from the Conference Board, the market looks to indications of weakening consumer sentiment as a precursor to slowing consumer demand. A preliminary report is released by the University of Michigan on the second Friday of each month, followed by a revised report on the fourth Friday. Also called the Consumer Sentiment Index or simply as Consumer Sentiment, the report is available at a variety of financial information Web sites.
