cash matching strategy

An investment strategy wherein a portfolio is assembled to meet the specific needs of an investor. This strategy utilizes the income from fixed securities to pay for future liabilities. For instance, a company estimates that it needs to purchase a machine five years from now. The company will then invest in a fixed income security which matures in five years. Upon maturity, the proceeds will then be used for the purchase of the machine.
