foreign investment funds tax (FIF Tax)

Definition

A tax liability imposed by the Australian government on foreign investments. The tax was implemented as a measure to discourage Australians from investing offshore, and avoid paying income tax for the same. The tax is applicable for offshore investments such as shares, unit funds and foreign life policies.
