automated stock trading
Definition
Investor trading of securities, usually through a computer, without direct help from an investment specialist or broker. As orders are entered, the transactions happen automatically, with bid and ask prices listed and continually updated. Fully automated trading has been limited to institutional and professional investors; however, brokerage firms are increasingly providing some automation for their clients. Also called computerized investing.
