registered exchange
Definition
A securities trading facility that has accepted the terms of and filed a registration statement with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). The registration statement provides the SEC with a description of the types of securities that will be traded, financial and operational information about the firms offering those securities to the public, and any risk factors. A registered exchange trades securities at a higher volume and therefore, requires more regulation. Two of the most recognized registered exchanges are the New York Stock Exchange and the Chicago Stock Exchange. Opposite of unregistered exchange.
