Privately owned banks, sponsored by the federal government, that make loans to farmer-owned cooperatives and rural utilities. Banks for cooperatives were established by the Farm Credit Act 1933. Loans issued by the banks are financed by the sale of securities by the Federal Farm Credit Bank.
