crude stockpiles
Definition
Oil reserves as measured in numbers of barrels maintained by producers to control the level of supply and, ultimately the price of oil. As stockpiles grow, the price of oil declines. One of the largest crude stockpiles is the strategic petroleum reserves of the U.S. government which was created in response to the supply disruption caused by the Arab oil embargo of 1973.
