deed of reconveyance

Definition

A document used as evidence for the full payment of a mortgage. This is issued by the mortgage holder to the debtor releasing him from his liabilities by indicating in the document that the mortgage has been paid in full. It is recorded in the county where the property is located.

When you make your final mortgage payment, you should receive a copy for the deed of reconveyance which the lender will file with the county in which the real property is located.
