Canada Premium Bond (CPB)
Definition
A savings bond issued by the Canadian government that comes with specific redemption requirements, but with a higher interest rate than standard savings bonds. The bond may only be redeemed once per year, during a 30-day period prior to the purchase anniversary date. This prevents bondholders from rushing to redeem the obligations at any point during rising interest rates.
