gross coupon

A term that describes the coupon received from a mortgage pool security (for example a mortgage backed security). The "gross" refers to the average of all interest rates paid by the mortgage owners in the pool, before administration costs are deducted. The coupon will be paid to the investor as determined by that interest rate, and the amount owed by mortgage owners in the pool.
