Definition

A term referring to the unique symbol used by companies in a stock exchange, for example the NYSE. Since every stock symbol is unique throughout the world, an investor can always check the stock price, by simply knowing the unique symbol. For example GE (General Electric), AAPL (Apple Inc.) or SNE (Sony Corporation).
