index ETF

An Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) that tracks a specific benchmark index as closely as possible. Similar in practice to index mutual funds, except ETFs can be traded throughout the trading period, while mutual fund shares can only be redeemed once daily. They also have the option to leverage or short the index which will compound or inverse the response to changes in the index. These are used in both short and long term investment strategies.
