1. The date on which an option, right or warrant expires, and becomes worthless if not exercised. For stock options, this is the third Saturday of the month in which the contract expires, or the third Thursday of the month if the third Friday is a holiday.
2. The date on which an agreement is no longer in effect.

The mortgage company had a strict policy regarding the expiration date they placed on their pre-approval letters for home buyers in that any pre-approval not utilized by the potential home buyer within 90 days would be rendered null and void and the home buyer would need to reapply and prove that he or she still met the qualifying criteria to get a home loan.
