matched sale-purchase agreement (MSPA)
Definition
An agreement in which the Federal Reserve sells US securities to another government's central bank or dealer and agrees to buy it back shortly. The securities are typically repurchased within two weeks at the selling price. This reduces banking reserves. Also called MSP.
