non-marketable security


A type of security that has difficulty being sold due to the fact that it typically does not trade on a normal exchange or market. Normally these types of securities will trade on an over the counter market or as a private transaction between investors. In some cases, there are many regulations with regard to buying and selling of these types of securities.
