performance-based index

Definition

A stock index which adds the amount of dividends, capital gains and other cash disbursements paid to investors to the net share stock price when performing index return calculations. Non-performance-based indices calculate index return on the weighted market value of the stocks in the portfolio without regard to cash disbursements.
