average effective maturity

Definition 1

A measure of a bond's maturity which takes into consideration the possibility that the issuer may call the bond before its maturity date.

Definition 2

A weighted average of the maturities of the bonds in a portfolio, taking into account all mortgage prepayments, puts, and adjustable coupons.
