cash flow per share

Definition

A measure of a company's financial strength. It is calculated as operating cash flow minus dividends from preferred stock, divided by the number of common outstanding shares. Some analysts prefer to look at cash flow per share rather than Earnings per Share, because cash flow per share is more likely to be accurate, as earnings data can be manipulated more easily than cash flow can.
