paid-up capital

Definition

The amount of money that has been received by shareholders who have completely paid for their purchased shares. This would not include any shares that have been bid on, but not yet purchased.

Use paid-up capital in a sentence

When a company achieves maximum paid-up capital, it has sold all of its available shares and it is unable to increase capital unless it sells more shares.
