Definition
An organization composed of various insurance companies that creates coverage rates based on the regulations set forth by each state's insurance department. The information compiled by the organization is passed on to the insurance companies who can use it when determining the rates charged to consumers. Insurance companies can accept this rate or change it (deviated rate), though some states require the deviated rate to be approved first.
