narrowing the spread

Shortening the gap (spread) between the price a buyer is offering to pay (bid price) for a share of a stock and the price a seller is quoting to sell it at (ask price). As the spread narrows, more buyers and sellers join in and the market for the stock comes alive. also called price improvement.
