Bolsa Mexicana De Valores
BMV. Primary and only stock exchange for Mexico. The exchange is a private limited company and consist of only authorized brokerage firms that each own one share. The BMV primarily trades debt instruments including bonds, federal treasury certificates, and promissory notes. Stocks, debentures, and mutual fund shares are also traded within the exchange. In 1995, the exchange introduced an electronic trading system that monitors and executes debt market trades. In addition to this, BMV calculates 13 indices of stock prices. The BMV's main index is the Indice de Precios y Cotizaciones and is used to gauge the overall performance of the stock exchange.
