feed ratio

Definition

Value calculated when analyzing futures markets, specifically those relating to the price of food for animals. The feed ratio calculates the margin of feeding an animal compared to the cost of selling an animal; it is calculated by taking the market price of the item used to feed an animal (such as grain) and dividing it by the market price earned by selling the same animal.
