symmetrical triangle

Definition

A triangle chart pattern used in technical analysis, where the top level decreases and the bottom level increases at the same time and at similar speeds. Eventually the resistance level and support level will meet or converge. This pattern is thought to be an indicator of a time of consolidation, and as soon as the security's price breaks out above or below one of the levels, traders believe that typically the security will continue in that direction.
