developmental drilling program

Definition

Drilling for oil and gas in an area with known reserves to a depth that was previously not reached before, but has historically provided oil and gas in other known oil and gas reserves. Developmental drilling programs are less risky than controlled wildcat drilling but have less chance of generating enormous profits.
