gestation repo
An agreement between mortgage firms and securities dealers to purchase securities with the promise to resell them at a higher price in the future. This agreement allows a firm to sell asset-backed securities, also referred to as mortgage-back securities, with the stipulation that the selling firm will repurchase those securities at a future date for a predetermined price.
