Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS)
Definition
Ethical guidelines produced by the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA Institute) establishing a formal and standardized method for investment firms to calculate and report investment results. Through GIPS, full disclosure and fair representation of performance results can be ensured for prospective clients of a fund. The standards also help by avoiding misrepresentation to potential clients, and by creating a standard which all managers are held to.
