Iceland Stock Exchange (ICEX)

Definition
Iceland's main stock exchange where Icelandic stocks, bonds, mutual funds and ETFs are electronically traded. Stocks are listed either on a Main List or an Alternative List, where the latter includes stocks that are traded OTC. Despite being traded over the counter, the Alternative List is closely regulated. ICEX was established as part of a joint venture in 1985 by multiple banks and brokerage firms, as charged by Iceland's central bank. Faroese bonds are listed on this exchange and efforts are being taken to include more foreign securities. Since 2002, it took on the alternative name of Kaupholl Islandshf.
