Smithsonian Agreement
An agreement signed in 1971 that updated some of the rules of the 1944 Bretton Woods agreement. The agreement was supposed to help devalue the United States dollar, but upon looking back the changes appear to have only helped temporarily. The agreement was so named because the meeting took place at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.
