auction rate securities (ARS)
Definition
A form of a short-term debt security that has a yield that resets on a continuous basis through a Dutch auction. Auction rate securities are not easily attainable due to the minimal $25,000 that is required to purchase them. Corporate and municipal bonds are commonly issued in the form of auction rate securities.
