cash wages

Wages paid in the form of a check, cash, money order, or direct deposit to an employee by an employer for services rendered. Most cash wages are subject to some form of taxation at the federal and state level. Paying cash wages "under the table" (without reporting the wages to the proper authorities) is illegal and may result in criminal prosecution.
