Supplemental Security Income


Definition
One of the federal programs under Social Security, which helps provide additional income to disabled or elderly individuals. The money is funded through tax revenues, and helps enable individuals to purchase basic needs such as food and housing. The program is need-based, and individuals must have an income below certain limits.
