Dangers of Investing in Innovative Companies

Investing in innovative companies can be dangerous. The business model isn't yet proven, and innovation is expensive and hard. And the company that's best at designing and developing cutting edge products might not be the company that's best at large scale low cost manufacturing and market share development and protection. Betting on the best copycats can be safer, even if the upside is less. Every industry is different, so study past innovators and copycats in the same industry of the company you're considering an investment in and see if the innovators or the copycats tend to win in the end.
